Staying Sane In a Quarantine

Updated: Apr 23, 2020

We think it’s reasonably safe to say that by this time, cabin fever due to the mandated isolation has probably started to kick in for you. The amount of good Netflix shows are dwindling, your Spotify playlists are becoming stale, and you’re slowly starting to lose your sanity as you mindlessly scroll through the memes you’ve seen 12 times already on Instagram.

While the situation we’ve found ourselves in is both physically and emotionally draining, it also presents a unique opportunity for us to get out of our comfort zones and uncover new and exciting ways to pass the time.

At The Modern Gentleman, our goal is to be a source of refreshingly creative content that entertains and supports you during the lockdown, and we’ve taken the time to outline a few things you can do to help keep you sane while improving your overall well-being. Check it out.

Host a Virtual Happy Hour

The human race as a whole craves contact with others. No surprise there. With that being said, one of the greatest ways to spend quality time these days while still adhering to the social distancing rule is to host a Virtual Happy Hour with your friends and family.

This gives you the ability to utilize technology to see the ones you care about without sacrificing your defense against exposure. Apps like Zoom, Google Hangouts, Facebook Live and FaceTime are all great options to help you throw your first soiree, so grab yourself a cocktail and saddle up because you are in for one heck of a time.

Listen to Podcasts

For those of you that have never sat down to listen to a good podcast, now is a better time than ever to get started. Whether you’re interested in real estate investments, photography, or random facts about famous musicians, we guarantee there’s a podcast out there for you. The best part? It’s completely free and provides and endless amount of knowledge bombs. Since there are so many good podcasts out there, we suggest the following if you need somewhere to start:

  • The Joe Rogan Experience

  • The Tim Ferriss Show

  • Pardon My Take

Give these three a gander and let us know what you think. Our guess is that you’ll be very happy you did so.

Build a Home-Based Workout

It’s obvious that taking care of your physical health should be a top priority while in the middle of a global pandemic. Therefore, our final recommendation to help keep your activity (and sanity) levels high each day is to build a workout routine that you can complete in the comfort of your own home.

Aside from helping to slow down the release of stress hormones, working out also aids in flushing the bacteria out of your lungs and airways…and since COVID-19 directly affects your ability breathe, it’s only fitting that we include this on the list. Because gyms are closed and online orders are stalled for the time being, we advise starting out with a bodyweight (or minimal equipment) routine that focuses on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

If you need some ideas to get started, take a look at our article on The Ultimate Home-Based Workout and start building a foundation for that immaculate post-pandemic bod today.

Closing Remarks

To be transparent, it’s highly likely that you’ve already tried at least one of the items on our list. However, our goal is not to reinvent the wheel, but to provide you with concrete ideas that will get you started down the path of staying occupied while improving your quality of life in the process.

Is social distancing trash? Yes. Is a lockdown a major inconvenience to our lives? Absolutely. Nevertheless, we need to shift our focus to our internal locus of control instead of looking strictly at the external forces around us. So…give these suggestions a try, experiment a little bit, and see for yourself how much more fun your days can be.

Until next time... stay safe and stay suave Gentlemen.
