"Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” -Dean Karnazes, marathon runner
Running, like anything we do in life, requires dedication and consistent training if you want to achieve the outcomes you desire. That being said, it also requires an investment in the right equipment.
If you are looking to step up your running game, get in shape, and boost your weekly mileage without destroying your ankles and precious toenails, you’ve come to the right place. Here are the Top 3 Running Shoes that we at The Modern Gentleman believe are the best choices on the market in 2020. Check it out.
Hoka One One Clifton 6
The Hoka One One Clifton 6 is, in our mind, the perfect road running shoe as it offers superior cushioning and support without the additional weight that you’d find among other trainers in the space. Coming in at just under 9 ounces, the Clifton 6 is the lightest it’s ever been since the model’s launch in 2014. With an embroidered midfoot design and a 30mm stack height in the heel, this shoe spares no expense in offering that traditional Hoka look with the highest level of comfort.
Though the pros far outweigh the cons, some of the reviewers have found that the shoe isn’t ideal if you’re looking to do interval training or sprint work, and that training pace is a little slower than usual if your goal is to run for time. However, most would trade a few seconds for a more enjoyable experience on the road, which is exactly what you get with the Hoka One One Clifton 6. We guarantee that once you put these bad boys on, it will be very difficult to keep them off. Don’t believe us? Try them out for yourself.
Brooks Ghost 12
The Brooks Ghost 12 will have you "ghosting" your previous personal records, thanks to its incredible durability and two-foam midsole. It is the real deal. Though it’s incredibly similar to its former model, The Ghost 12 features a sleek aesthetic look to the upper portion of the shoe, which uses 3D printed overlays on engineered mesh to provide the soft, yet highly durable feel that Brooks promises to its supporters.
With a weight of 10.4 ounces, the Ghost 12’s are slightly heavier than other options. Reviewers have also noted that the Ghost 12’s are a bit tighter than the 11’s and the support does not hold up nearly as long. Overall, however, the Brooks Ghost 12 is one of the most versatile pairs of shoes out on the market today and is sure to help bring you joy as you rack up your mileage on the road. Giddy up.
Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit
The Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit was designed for one thing and one thing only: achieving record-breaking speed. With a carbon-fiber plate, a Nike React foam midsole, and a world-class Flyknit upper, your feet will be screaming at you to pick up the pace. After giving this pair a try last week, the Zoom Fly Flyknit is not only the lightest trainer we’ve ever tried on (with a weight of 8.7 ounces), but it’s also one of the most responsive. It truly is the “Ferrari” of running shoes.
The only real negative that we noticed was the shoes seem to lean more on the narrow side, which means that runners with slightly wider feet may get a few more blisters due to the excessive movement of the midsole, especially when turning corners. The other is that they’re pretty expensive compared to the other two options listed on this review. That said, we at The Modern Gentleman believe that when it comes to running gear, you get what you pay for. If you’re serious about running and want to improve your mile time, then look no further.
The Bottom Line
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a beginner lacing up for the first time, we believe that having the right pair of shoes will play a key role in helping you achieve your personal goals quickly and successfully. We also believe that each person’s preference is different….and that, at the end of the day, it really comes down to what’s best for you. We’ve outlined what we believe to be the 3 best options, but it’s up to you to figure out which pair is going to be the perfect fit. So, what are you waiting for, Cinderella?
Until next time….Stay Swift Gentlemen.
